German troops will relocate to new firing positions, throw grenades to flush you out, and will even try encircling your squad if the possibility presents itself. This is an interesting development considering, the Germans fought a largely static defence in the previous game, so the newly tweaked AI will catch even the more advanced BIA players off guard. That's all history now in Earned in Blood, since it's the Germans who take aggressive measures that include flanking you and your squad. Where Hill 30 stumbled a bit was in the inability of the Wehrmacht to effectively counteract any attempts to flank them. Don't be fooled though, since that will hardly matter as the game progresses because the German units are far less naïve this time around. The overall layout is different but the gameplay and tactical situations are nearly identical. Having said all that, the opening mission plays much like the opening one did in Hill 30. While they do get better later on, the load times are generally longer than you might expect from any game on the Xbox. It took close to a minute of loading just to get to the first mission. The missions in the game are not only true-to-history, but Gearbox goes as far as to unlock game "extras" for beating a level that show you precisely how closely the game mirrors what actually happened. At this point they are most vulnerable to flank attacks, which is typically how you utilize your second (assault) squad who carry an armament of machine guns. You must command your fire squad to lay down suppressive fire, which causes the enemy to become less and less likely to pop their head out at you. and you *will* be killed.Īs you adjust your position around the available battlefield the enemy shifts into as defensively superior a position as they can find.
